Although winter brings good vibes and people crave this weather to get rid of summer, uncomfortable heat, and sweating, yet we know that during the winter season, we go through several problems like excessively dry skin, darkening of complexion, flakiness, and even blistering and itching.

Here’s what you can do to keep your skin in check during winter.

Increase your liquid intake: To keep your skin moisturized and hydrated consume at least 8-10 glasses of water only, and take fresh juices as well. Drinking water has plenty of benefits. It keeps your skin moist and doesn’t allow it to become flaky. With ample fluid intake, the skin looks healthy and starts glowing within a couple of days, and you can see this healthy change for yourself.

Use a good moisturizer: Using a good moisturizer is extremely important. Without this, you cannot expect your skin to look good especially in winters when harsh winds blow and even all the water you consume doesn’t necessarily do wonders, unless, of course, you drink 10-12 glasses of water per day. Choose a good quality hand and body lotion and other skin care products and apply at least twice or thrice a day. Dry weather can also cause skin infections and a good moisturizer prevents these infections and outbreaks of acne and doesn’t let your skin become stiff.

Don’t think exfoliation is unnecessary: Amidst the outside cold air and centralized heating systems inside, your skin cells tend to suffer through dryness and itchiness. Not only this but also the skin cells die out faster in colder weather. To get rid of these dead cells and skin, exfoliation is mandatory. It helps to replenish dry skin. Dry skin is also known to age faster, so the exfoliation process removes the layers of dead skin cells and restores the fresh ones.

Don’t sit close to the heater/fireplace: Sitting next to the heaters, and fireplaces is not good for your skin since the heat makes your lips chapped, skin dry, and itchy. It becomes red and vulnerable to different allergies as well. So, set your heater to a fairly lower temperature that could still keep you warm and cozy. You can also get a humidifier to neutralize the effects of central heating. You see a balance is always better!

Make a smart choice of sunscreen: There is a common misconception among people that sunscreens are only for summers. On contrary, they are equally important in winters as well to shield us from the harmful UV rays from the sunlight, especially when people love sunbathing in winters. You must never forget to apply proper sunscreen on your face, neck, hands, and ears as well.

Don’t take prolonged hot/steamy showers: One of the best things about winters is hot and steamy showers. One just cannot resist a long hot bath when the weather is super cold. However long steamy hot showers are a big NO! They not only dehydrate your skin but also removed the necessary oils from your body. So, try to use lukewarm water instead to retain the necessary moisture content of your body.

Change your bad habits and follow these tips while keeping a check on your skin this winter, you will feel a noticeable difference.
